HUMBERTO MATURANA & XIMENA DÁVILA IN EADA

31 January 2011

The Chilean experts Humberto Maturana and Ximena Dávila gave two workshops in EADA last Monday 24th on Emotions in the Organisation which were attended by over 200 managers, professionals and specialists in coaching and development.

They used talking or languaging to open spaces of reflection which enabled us to see ourselves in the dilemmas that make up our current concerns: listening to others or listening to oneself, leadering a team or coinspiring each other, emotion as a way of integrating reason, plasticity in human intelligence as a basic condition that makes us all equal, the opportunity to create new worlds based on the conviction of feeling pleasure from the fact of being together, were just some of the issues we had the chance to share.

Maturana and Dávila are cofounders of the Escuela Matriztica de Santiago from where they work on the basic foundations of human behaviour, describing life as a sum of feelings and doings which enable us to live together in a constantly changing present. The past frames the experience and allows us to see again what we did yesterday; the future is an invented construction; it is therefore only by living in the present that we can construct spaces which open up possibilities for us to overcome difficulties. It is a matter of choice and responsibility for each and every one of us whether we decide to explore new behaviours.

Given that human beings are the only beings who have been gifted with language, the experts invite us to take advantage of the opportunity we have in front of us to converse and design collaboration spaces which allow us to construct new present moments where harmony, zeal and trust are what guide our organisations and the relationships that take place inside them.
