Change is a constant part of life, whether it happens unexpectedly or after careful planning. It shapes our experiences in profound and meaningful ways. For me, a significant turning point came when I decided to pursue the International Master in Tourism and Hospitality Management in Barcelona. This wasn’t just a career move—it meant stepping into a completely new environment, redefining my routine, and reshaping my vision for the future. It was a bold decision, one that came with its own set of challenges and exciting possibilities.
Leaving behind my family, friends, and everything familiar to study in a new country was both exhilarating and overwhelming. With the Philippines more than 6,600 miles away from Spain, the physical distance mirrored the emotional and practical challenges I knew I would face. Moving to a new city, adapting to a different culture, and immersing myself in a demanding academic program introduced a level of uncertainty that I had never experienced before. On my first day of class, I walked into a room full of unfamiliar faces, and I couldn’t help but wonder if I’d fit in, make new friends, or struggle with loneliness. Despite the overwhelming nerves, I held onto the belief that this journey would challenge me in ways I couldn’t yet foresee, pushing me to grow academically, personally, and professionally.
Supportive Learning Environment
Fortunately, EADA Business School made that transition smoother than I could have imagined. From day one, I felt welcomed not just by my classmates, but also by the faculty and staff who were there to guide me every step of the way. EADA’s “learning by doing” approach, combined with its supportive environment and strong sense of community, reassured me that I had made the right decision. What initially seemed like overwhelming challenges quickly became valuable opportunities for learning and growth, thanks to the encouragement and kindness from those around me. I realized that being surrounded by such a collaborative atmosphere was exactly what I needed to thrive in this new chapter of my life.

One of the most pleasant surprises was the bond I formed with my classmates. The Master in Tourism and Hospitality Batch 2025 was small—only 14 participants—but we quickly became a tight-knit group with an undeniable energy and spirit. Each of us came to this program with different experiences and backgrounds, and as we tackled coursework, presentations, and case studies together, it became clear how much we could learn from one another. Some of us were beginners, unsure of how to approach complex topics and presentations, while others brought more experience, offering guidance and insights that helped bridge the gaps. It was this diversity in experience that made us even stronger as a team.
Presentations became an important way for us to stretch beyond our comfort zones, and though there were moments of uncertainty and self-doubt, we always knew we could count on each other for support. Whether it was embarrassing practice sessions or exchanging constructive feedback late into the night, we embraced our shared vulnerability.
The nerves we all felt before major presentations were not isolating—instead, they united us, reminding us that we were in this together, working toward the same goal. By the time we completed our first major assignments, it became clear that what started as uncertainty had transformed into collaboration and a deep sense of camaraderie.
Finding Purpose and Connections
It wasn’t just the academic challenges that bonded us—it was the shared vulnerability of starting fresh in a new environment. Whether we were struggling with new concepts or navigating the cultural differences of living in a foreign city, we knew we were all going through similar experiences. And it was this shared sense of purpose that made our connections even stronger. We were all there because we had one thing in common—we wanted to help people and make a difference in the world through tourism and hospitality. That underlying motivation to contribute to others’ experiences and lives gave us a deeper connection than any coursework or assignment could.

Beyond the Classroom
In between demanding weekdays, weekends became a welcome opportunity to step away from our studies and explore. Day trips to parks, visits to iconic tourist spots, and even an afternoon at Tibidabo gave us a chance to unwind, discover new places, and experience Barcelona together. These moments, though simple, became an essential part of our journey—helping us find balance, recharge, and create lasting memories as we navigated our way through this new chapter. They were the moments that strengthened our friendships and reminded us that life outside the classroom was just as important as the lessons we were learning in it.
Reflections on Growth and Resilience
Looking back, I realize how much change has shaped my experience. The unknown is always daunting, but in this case, it was the very thing that allowed me to grow, form meaningful connections, and build resilience. The support of my peers, combined with our shared academic challenges, transformed what could have been an isolating transition into one filled with collaboration and friendship. The lessons I’ve learned—both academically and personally—have made the change I once feared one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Now, with nearly half of my course behind me, I feel more confident, motivated, and eager for what lies ahead. This experience has affirmed that stepping outside of my comfort zone was the right choice, and I am excited for the next chapter of my journey, knowing that I have a strong foundation built on growth, teamwork, and the values instilled at EADA.

These values have not only prepared me to succeed but have equipped me with the confidence and mindset to tackle whatever comes next in my professional and personal life.
