Relaxation, laughter, meditation and neurosciences in Shelley Carson’s workshop at EADA

24 April 2012

“Thinking rationally and evaluating is important in creativity but before that it is absolutely essential to relax, absorb information from the environment and think divergently.”

The sentence pretty well sums up the workshop that the Harvard researcher and professor Shelley Carson gave last Tuesday, 17th of April, organised by the EADA Innovation Center and held in the Hotel Majestic in Barcelona. Carson invited participants to discover whether they were more deliberate or spontaneous with regard to their creativity and to explore their dominant brainsets.

The author of "Your creative brain" (published in Spanish by Profit Editorial) explained her "CREATES" method (Connect, Reason, Envision, Absorb, Transform, Evaluate and Stream) and encouraged participants to "to go beyond their mental comfort zone".

Carson presented various interactive exercises (impact of positive emotions, conscious visualisation, personal discoveries grid, etc.) which helped the 80 or more people taking part in the workshop to find out how to work in their less developed areas of creativity. “A creative brain –commented Carson- is one which learns to move with a certain degree of comfort through the 7 brainsets. To do this it is important to consider development exercises and do them regularly.”

Shelley Carson collaborates with prestigious science media such as Discovery Channel, Scientific American and Psychology Today.
